Acne

Acne TreatmentAcne is a condition that occurs due to the overproduction of sebum, an oily substance produced by sebaceous glands beneath the skin’s surface. Normally, sebum flows out of hair follicles onto the skin, acting as a natural moisturizer. However, when hair follicles become blocked by sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria, acne can develop.

Acne typically starts during puberty and can worsen during adolescence. It affects approximately 85 percent of individuals between the ages of 12 and 25, with as many as 20 million teenagers experiencing the condition. Acne can also appear in some newborns and may persist beyond the age of 30. Increased levels of the hormone androgen during puberty contribute to excess sebum production. The combination of sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria allows for the growth of P. acnes, leading to the formation of comedones, which are enlarged hair follicles.

The treatment can vary depending on the severity of the condition. Treatment may involve a combination of oral medications and topical drugs applied to the skin. The specific medications and approach is determined based on the individual’s condition and needs.
